2pack
2pack aims to create a water-repellent paper-based material that is easy to recycle, using fish waste and other non-food organic residues. The technology involves extracting a hydrophobic coating from this biomass and applying it to biodegradable substrates; a subsequent fixing process produces the final material.
The objective is twofold: to reduce pollution and comply with EU regulations requiring alternatives to plastic, while ensuring sustainable production costs. Unlike solutions that use food-based materials (such as corn-derived PLA), this proposal makes use of non-edible waste. The resulting packaging can be used in the large-scale retail and cosmetics sectors.
